Is Black Myth: Zhong Kui a sequel to Black Myth: Wukong?

It is the second mainline Black Myth game, but not a direct story sequel. Game Science describes it as a completely independent story with a new protagonist. Think of it as a sibling title in the same series, not a continuation of the Destined One’s journey.

Which platforms will it launch on?

PC and consoles. The official FAQ says “PC + all major gaming console platforms” — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are included in the consoles announcement, and the final list will be confirmed before release. No store pages (Steam, Epic, PS Store) are live yet, and cross-save or cross-play details are unconfirmed.

When is the release date?

Not announced. As of the 15-minute gameplay trailer on 20 Aug 2026, Game Science has given no year, quarter, or window. Stay current on the release date tracker.

How much will it cost?

Unknown. Black Myth: Wukong launched at $60 on PC and consoles, but no pricing for Zhong Kui has been announced — and a store page does not exist yet.

Fact note: anything you see online quoting a price, pre-order bonus, or “release date” before the studio’s own announcement is unofficial. Treat it as rumor.

Will it be on Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus?

No subscription service has been announced. Game Science has not put any of its Black Myth titles on a day-one subscription service so far.

Is there a demo or beta?

No demo, beta, or playtest announced. Watch for scam posts in Steam discussions or Discord servers claiming “internal testing has started” — they are phishing attempts, not official channels.

Will it play like Wukong?

Probably similar in spirit, different in specifics. Wukong was a staff-based action RPG with a stance system; Game Science says it is “still exploring and experimenting” with how Zhong Kui’s abilities should feel, and switching from a staff to new weapons is confirmed to change the combat identity. Until real gameplay details land, treat comparisons as speculation.

Where can I follow official news?

The official Black Myth: Zhong Kui website, the Black Myth YouTube channel, and the official X account. This wiki mirrors every official announcement in plain English within the same day.
